Dani Olmo, who is a summer target for Manchester United has refused to rule out a summer move away from Dinamo Zagreb.
In an interview with Spanish publication Sport, Dani Olmo has handed Manchester United a bit of a boost in their bid to secure his services in this summer’s transfer window. The Spanish midfielder has iterated that he will not rule out a move away from Dinamo Zagreb amid widespread interest in his services.
Dani Olmo has made giant strides since leaving Barcelona for Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2014. While he took his time to establish himself as a mainstay in the first-team setup at Stadion Maksimir, he is now well and truly a key figure for the Croatian outfit.
2018-19 turned out to be his most productive season till date, with Olmo producing a return of 12 goals and 9 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. The young midfielder then followed it up with a solid campaign for Spain at the UEFA Under-21 European Championships, wherein he was the Man of the Match in the triumphant final.
Subsequently, the 21-year-old has ended up attracting some of the biggest clubs in the world. In particular, Manchester United remain linked the most heavily, although recent reports had suggested that they were set to be beaten by Premier League rivals Tottenham in his pursuit.
At Manchester United, Olmo could come in handy in a number of ways depending on the system that is implemented by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In a midfield diamond, the Spaniard could be used at its tip, while he could also play out wide, if a 4-3-3 is employed by the Manchester United boss.
Most recently, Solskjaer made use of a 4-2-2-2 formation in the friendly contest with Perth Glory and in this system, Olmo’s attributes could come of use as well, if used in behind the two strikers. With Olmo being a viable target for them, Manchester United have now received a boost in their chase for the player, following his latest comments.
“There’s talk about a lot of teams and many more rumours. I don’t know what is true and what isn’t. I’ve wanted to disconnect from everything and when I have the chance to speak with my agent, we’ll see.”
“I’ve always said that I wanted to return to Spain, it would be nice, but we’ll see what happens. I’m not ruling out any team. Out of respect to everyone who is interested in me, I’m not going to say anything. You have to respect them all.”
With Sport claiming that Atletico Madrid are also among the interested parties, Los Rojiblancos could fancy their chances, provided they hold serious interest. But, with Olmo admittedly not ruling out a move to any team, Manchester United ought to be believe that they can land him.
It will now be interesting to see what the future holds for Dani Olmo, as interest in him continues to grow. With the Spaniard letting his performances do the talking, the only way seems to be up for him and it remains to be seen if he ends up becoming the midfield reinforcement that Manchester United have been chasing this summer.
