Manchester United are reportedly finding it difficult to find suitors for Argentine outcast Marcos Rojo due to his £25 million price tag.
According to a report by Scottish Daily Record, Manchester United are struggling to move Marcos Rojo out of the club in this summer’s transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights have slapped a £25 million price tag on the Argentine defender, whose £8 million-a-year wages also pose a problem for suitors.
Marcos Rojo has had a hit and miss career at Manchester United since joining them in the summer of 2014. From flitting in and out of the side in his first two seasons due to a fitness and consistency issues, to becoming a regular for Jose Mourinho in the 2016-17 season to managing just 20 outings in the last two seasons, it has been a topsy turvy ride at Old Trafford for the Argentine.
Having fallen down the pecking order so much that he is now a peripheral figure, a summer exit can be expected for the 29-year-old, especially with Manchester United plotting a move for Harry Maguire once again.
With the arrival of Maguire, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have as many as seven first-team central defenders at his disposal, provided Axel Tuanzebe, who recently signed a new three-year deal with Manchester United is inculcated in the first-team setup by the manager.
Offloading a centre-back or two would thus, make sense for Manchester United, and it is hardly surprising that Rojo seems to be on the chopping block. But, the Red Devils’ valuation of the Argentine international is proving to be problematic for them in their bid to offload the player.
The Premier League heavyweights are demanding £25 million in exchange for Rojo’s services, which is proving to be problematic for potential suitors. In addition to what looks like an excessive fee, the fact that the 29-year-old pockets £8 million per year at Old Trafford also adds to their hesitation.
While clubs from the cash-rich Chinese Super League are interested, Rojo wishes to remain in Europe, which is only making the situation more problematic. But, if Manchester United are to sell the Argentine outcast this summer, something will have to give.
The best case scenario for Manchester United is if they reconsider their £25 million valuation of Marcos Rojo, whose £8 million-a-year pay package already poses a problem. It now remains to be seen if the Red Devils can manage to offload the defensive outcast this summer.
