Sporting Lisbon captain Bruno Fernandes, who is a summer target for Manchester United, reportedly expects a swift resolution to seal his Old Trafford transfer.
According to a report by Portuguese outlet Correio de Manha, Bruno Fernandes does not have any concerns surrounding his impending move to Manchester United. The Portuguese international is calm over the Old Trafford switch and expects a swift resolution to seal his move away from Sporting Lisbon.
2018-19 would be remembered as the season wherein Bruno Fernandes finally took the plunge towards fulfilling his potential. Having been handed the additional responsibility of being the Sporting Lisbon captain, the 24-year-old was in a league of his own in the campaign gone by.
In 53 matches across all competitions, Fernandes had a fantastic return of 32 goals and 18 assists, making him one of the most prolific players in all of Europe. And, following such a spellbinding campaign, it is hardly surprising that the player is attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in England, specifically Manchester United, who have reportedly been in talks with his entourage.
While the vulnerabilities of their frail defence were brutally exposed this past season, Manchester United also struggled with finding the back of the net on a consistent basis – the Red Devils failed to score in a game 12 times last term.
A closer inspection would suggest that more contribution is required from the midfielders, with only Paul Pogba being a regular scorer, to some extent. And, with the Frenchman’s Manchester United future also up in the air, targeting Bruno Fernandes makes sense.
Recent reports claimed that Manchester United had been closing in on signing the 24-year-old. But, Correio de Manha suggest that the Premier League heavyweights are yet to present a formal bid for the Portuguese international. Instead, United have presented a proposal over a €55 million move.
This potential offer falls short of Sporting Lisbon’s €70 million valuation of Fernandes, meaning Manchester United might have to table a bid worth a higher amount to land their man. The star midfielder though, is not worried about the transfer being held up.
Fernandes has joined his teammates for pre-season training and is calm over the prospect of an impending exit, as per the report. But, it remains to be seen if Manchester United and Sporting CP can reach an agreement over an amenable transfer fee, so as to complete the Old Trafford switch.
