Real Madrid have agreed a deal to send Sergio Reguilon on loan to fellow La Liga club Sevilla for the 2019-20 season, the club announced on Friday.
Real Madrid have made an official announcement to confirm that they have reached an agreement with Sevilla for a loan deal for Spanish defender Sergio Reguilon. The 22-year-old has joined Los Nervionenses on a season-long loan deal, and will spend the 2019-20 campaign at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
Sergio Reguilon joined Real Madrid as an eight-year-old in 2005 and progressed through the various age groups over the next decade before making the grade with the Castilla side in 2015. But, he subsequently had to wait for three years before he managed to break into the first-team setup at the Bernabeu.
In the meantime, the young full-back was sent on-loan to UD Logrones on two separate season-long loan deals. Reguilon finally broke into the Real Madrid first-team setup last season, with the appointment of Santiago Solari coming as a blessing for him.

The 22-year-old went on to make such a rapid impression in the side that he usurped the underperforming Marcelo as the first-choice left-back in due time. But, the return of Zinedine Zidane as the Real Madrid boss marked the end of Reguilon’s run as a regular in the side.
However, in the 22 appearances he made across all competitions, Reguilon made quite a marked impression, having also provided three assists in those outings. The arrival of Ferland Mendy this summer though, was always going to spell doom for him, seeing as Marcelo was already ahead of him in the pecking order.
To that end, the move to Sevilla makes sense, with the La Liga club securing his services on a season-long loan deal. Interestingly, former Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui, who endured a miserable term at the Bernabeu, is now at the helm at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
Seeing as it was Lopetegui who handed who handed Reguilon his first-team debut at Real Madrid last season, the young defender would fancy his chances of becoming a regular at Sevilla. And, he expressed his delight at joining Los Nervionenses.
“Sevilla are at a top European level. When I had the option to come here I didn’t even think, I’m so excited to start with my teammates. I’m confronting this challenge with a lot of enthusiasm and I’m wanting to kick-off and get to know the rest of the team,” Reguilon said.
It now remains to be seen if the 22-year-old can become a first-choice left-back at Sevilla, with Sergio Escudero and Guilherme Arana for competition at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium for the upcoming season. Ideally though, the move offers Reguilon to garner some much-needed minutes at a club possibly playing European football next season.
As far as Real Madrid are concerned, after a staggering spending spree, a clear-out is well in effect, having kickstarted it with the sale of Marcos Llorente. Reguilon though, could well return to the first-team setup next season.
