Premier League giants Tottenham have reportedly offered their key playmaker Christian Eriksen to Real Madrid over a summer move.
According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, the tables seem to have turned in the Christian Eriksen saga. This time, Tottenham are ready to part ways with the Danish playmaker and cash-in on him, and have thus, offered his services to Real Madrid.
From being one of the players to join Tottenham courtesy the proceeds from Gareth Bale’s sale to Real Madrid to becoming one of the pillars of their success under Mauricio Pochettino, Christian Eriksen has come a long way. Now one of the best playmakers across Europe, the Dane has been at the heart of Spurs’ best in recent seasons.
But, after six successful seasons with the Premier League giants, Eriksen now appears to be ready to bring an end to his stint with the North London giants. Recent comments wherein he admitted his desire for a new challenge have sparked a flurry of interest in him, with Real Madrid among those that have their eyes set on him.
Los Blancos are in the middle of a summer rebuild project that has gone swimmingly thus far. But, one area that remains a concern is midfield. With Luka Modric evidently in the twilight of his career and Toni Kroos showing signs of regression. With Dani Ceballos reportedly linked with a summer exit, it is imperative for Real Madrid to sign a creative midfielder.
To that end, Eriksen has been viewed as a key target to pursue for Real Madrid, who even wanted to sign the 27-year-old last summer. But, with just one year left on the Danish international’s contract with Tottenham, the Merengues are in a strong position this time around.
Spurs though, have gone a step ahead, with chairman Daniel Levy establishing contact with Real Madrid director general Jose Angel Sanchez over the possibility of agreeing a move for Eriksen. And while they wanted €150 million for his services last summer, the Premier League giants have reluctantly slapped a €70 million price tag this year.
Real Madrid though, are not ready to meet his valuation just as yet, and are weighing up the option of signing a cheaper alternative, namely Donny van de Beek. But, if they are unable to sign the Dutchman who, according to the report is a priority, Eriksen would be back on the agenda.
As things stand, Tottenham appear to have made peace with the idea of selling Christian Eriksen this summer, with the Dane not expected to extend his stay at the club. It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid are willing to meet the Premier League giants’ €70 million valuation to secure the Dane’s services.
