Inter Milan are reportedly set to launch a £9 million offer to sign Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku on a two-season loan deal.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan are planning a £9 million bid in order to sign Manchester United superstar Romelu Lukaku on a two-year loan deal, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent for a fee of £54 million.
Lukaku has been with Manchester United for two years, having joined from Everton in a £75 million deal. The 26-year-old had an impressive debut campaign with the Red Devils, but indifferent form saw him fall behind Marcus Rashford in the pecking order last season.
Not happy with his situation at Old Trafford, Lukaku has his heart set on a summer transfer, with Inter Milan emerging as an attractive destination for the Belgian. He has expressed his desire to play in the Serie A in the past and sang praises of Antonio Conte post his appointment as the Nerazzurri manager, fueling speculations of a transfer.
Conte had tried to sign Lukaku during his days as the manager of Chelsea and is keen on bringing him to Italy this summer, with former captain Mauro Icardi likely to be shown the door. To that end, the Serie A giants have already held talks with Lukaku’s agent Federico Pastorello in Milan earlier this week to explore the possibility of a transfer.
Speaking of his client’s situation and the interest from Inter, Pastorello said,”Yes, he’s publicly expressed his plans and desires. We’ll see what happens. Lukaku is a dream, a difficult one to make happen as such, but I believe nothing is impossible. It’s not impossible and Inter is trying hard.”
Inter were reported to have offered Manchester United a chance to sign Icardi as part of a deal that would see Lukaku move the other way, but the Red Devils weren’t open to such an arrangement. They are now hoping to convince United with a £9 million bid for a two-year loan spell, at the end of which they would be obligated to make the deal permanent for £54 million.
Recent reports had claimed that Lukaku had already agreed personal terms with the Serie A outfit. But it remains to be seen if Manchester United accept the latest offer put forth by Inter or knock it back down. All in all though, it seems like the Belgian’s time at Old Trafford, during which he scored 42 goals in 96 appearances, could be drawing to an end.
