Manchester United have reportedly contacted Napoli over the prospect of signing Elseid Hysaj, who is also on the radar of Atletico Madrid.
According to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, Manchester United have made the first move for Elseid Hysaj. The Red Devils have made contact with Napoli in order to scour out the prospect of a potential move for the Albanian, who is also courting interest from Atletico Madrid.
Elseid Hysaj is not a new name to be linked with a potential move to the Premier League. The Albanian was rumoured to be on the radar of Chelsea for a long time. But, the Blues are unlikely to pursue Hysaj, or anyone for that matter, due to the transfer ban in force.
Hysaj maintained his regular status under new manager Carlo Ancelotti, with Napoli finishing second in Serie A and not really managing to challenge Juventus properly. The Albanian international is now drawing interest from Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.
Manchester United seem to have hit a snag in their pursuit of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Crystal Palace are reportedly unhappy with the way United’s second bid of £50 million was structured and want more cash upfront along with realistic bonus clauses.
Right-back is a priority area for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the current transfer window. Manchester United could land Wan-Bissaka with a better structured offer to Crystal Palace. But, United are looking at all options before opting for the obvious one, with the Red Devils also linked with Max Aarons and a couple of other stars.
Hysaj, who is the captain for the Albanian National Team, would also add to the leadership cabinet within the dressing room, something that seems near-empty right now.
Atletico Madrid though, are also in for the 25-year-old. Juanfran and Filipe Luis are set to leave the club on a free transfer, which will leave Atletico with just Santiago Arias for the two full-back areas combined. Sime Vrsaljko is set to return to the club after his loan stint at Inter Milan.
But, there is still no left-back within the squad. Hysaj, who can also operate on the left, is thus, an ideal target for Diego Simeone, whose team is likely to go under a rebuild project with most of the key stars either leaving or having already agreed to leave the club.
The 25-year-old though, will not be able to play Champions League football if he agrees to move to Manchester United, which hands Atletico Madrid the edge. However, for now, the likelihood of the transfer is dependent on whether Carlo Ancelotti views Hysaj as a key part of his plans.
