Transfer News: Manchester United table €4 million bid for AS Monaco prodigy Hannibal Mejbri

Manchester United have reportedly submitted a formal €4 million offer to AS Monaco in order to land highly-rated starlet Hannibal Mejbri.

AS Monaco have been gripped by the Hannibal Mejbri saga for quite some time. The youngster’s family has been trying to get the contract annulled amid interest from other European heavyweights. And as per French publication Le Parisien, Manchester United have tabled a €4 million transfer offer for the youngster.

The family wanted to cancel Mejbri’s AS Monaco contract over irregularities and broken promises. But, as per the report, Hannibal Mejbri’s family’s request to get the contract cancelled has been rejected twice by LFP. While the family is set to try again, Manchester United and others interested might have to go through AS Monaco to get Mejbri.

Earlier, there were reports of Manchester United tabling a substantial offer to Mejbri. But, with the youngster no closer to getting his contract cancelled and increasing interest in his services, with Lyon also chasing the 16-year-old, it is imperative for the Red Devils to wrap up the deal quickly.

AS Monaco themselves would not want to retain the services of a player who so dearly wants out of his contract. So, while there has been no update on whether the French giants have responded to the offer, Manchester United are in with a great chance with their €4 million bid.

AS Monaco’s unwillingness to let Mejbri and his family have their way and cancel the contract makes sense. The 16-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best emerging talents in France. The central midfielder though, has not played since April due to the ongoing rift between the club and the player’s camp.

Having only joined AS Monaco in the summer of 2018, it is quite interesting that the player’s camp want to quit the club over broken promises, which remain undisclosed in the report. While the family are set to challenge the decision set by LFP, Mejbri remains bound to AS Monaco till 2021 as per his contract.

But, with AS Monaco unlikely to let him represent the club while the off-field issues are resolved, Mejbri would be better off moving to a different club. Manchester United would hope AS Monaco decide to either accept or negotiate the offer to an extent that makes sense for the club.

A very peculiar situation for Mejbri, whose future lies in the hands of AS Monaco, for now at least.
