Manchester United are reportedly set to offer a £350,000 per week deal to English superstar Marcus Rashford to fend off Barcelona and Real Madrid.
If the report by The Sun is to be believed, Manchester United could be forced to table a deal worth £350,000 per week to ensure they keep hold of Marcus Rashford. The English international has been linked with Spanish heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid, whom United are looking to thwart.
Marcus Rashford has become a bonafide superstar in the three years he has spent with the Manchester United first-team setup. So much so, that by the end of the 2018-19 season, he had usurped Romelu Lukaku to become the first-choice striker for the Red Devils.
2018-19 also ended with him enjoying his most productive campaign till date, with Rashford boasting a tally of 13 goals and 9 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. While his numbers could do with improvement, the Manchester United striker has become a hot property in the transfer market, with Barcelona and Real Madrid reportedly interested.
At Barcelona, there is precious little beyond Luis Suarez as far as options to lead the line are concerned. But, there are other issues at hand as well, with the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Malcom and Ousmane Dembele all being unreliable for one reason or another. Rashford could thus, be an option to be deployed out wide as well.
Recent reports had suggested that Barcelona had been viewing Rashford as an alternative to Antoine Griezmann. But, in the wake of comments by Atletico Madrid CEO Gil Marin that the Frenchman would join Barcelona, it is suspect as to whether the Catalans still hold an interest in the Manchester United star.
The same goes for Real Madrid, who have completed the signing of Luka Jovic, whose capture means Zinedine Zidane has enough strikers at his disposal. As for wingers, Eden Hazard’s arrival means the Real Madrid boss is stocked with options out wide as well.
Nevertheless, Manchester United remain on the edge and are keen to offer Rashford a bumper new deal. And, as per The Sun, the Premier League heavyweights could be forced to table a £350,000-a-week deal in order fend off Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The figure is simply astonishing for a player who is still in the early years of his career and has a long way to go. But, Alexis Sanchez’s eye-watering £505,000-a-week contract has also put Manchester United in a spot, as far as contract renewals are concerned.
It now remains to be seen if Barcelona and Real Madrid still do hold an interest in Marcus Rashford and if so, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United indeed offer him a £350,000 per week deal to tie him down for the long-term.
