Juventus are plotting a bumper swap deal that could see them offer Alex Sandro and Paulo Dybala in exchange of Manchester United star Paul Pogba.
According to Express, Juventus could offer both Alex Sandro and Paulo Dybala in order to attain the services of Paul Pogba this summer. The Italian champions are plotting a move to re-sign the Frenchman after seeing him leave for Manchester United for a whopping £94 million three years ago.
Pogba was one of Manchester United’s star performers this season, notably ending the campaign as the club’s top scorer. But, it is believed that he could leave Old Trafford this summer, with Juventus and Real Madrid reportedly keen on securing the services of the World Cup winner.
The Italian giants, in particular, will be looking to reshape their squad following the impending departure of Massimiliano Allegri. They also need someone who can replace both Emre Can and Sami Khedira, both of whom have struggled with injuries. Pogba, in that regard, will be an excellent option.
Manchester United currently value Pogba somewhere around the £120 million mark. And although Real Madrid are willing to match the asking price for the Frenchman, United should definitely explore the possibility of completing Juventus’ proposed swap deal. This is mainly because of two reasons.
For starters, Pogba, despite being one of United’s best performers during 2018-19 campaign, did not really maintain his consistency throughout the course of the season.
He was notably involved in as many as 14 goals in Solskjaer’s first 11 league matches in charge of the club. But, his form took a huge dip during the final phase of the campaign. In fact, the midfielder was involved in only two goals in United’s last 12 league matches, during which the Red Devils secured just four victories.
It is also fair to mention that more than half of Pogba’s goals in the league came from penalties, which doesn’t precisely signify his attacking contribution to the side. And given the way how Solskjaer is trying to redesign the entire squad this summer, offloading the Frenchman wouldn’t necessarily be a bad decision from the club.
Another key reason Manchester United should accept Juventus’ bumper swap-deal is that both Dybala and Sandro could add more quality to the team.
The Red Devils were already eyeing a move for Dybala this summer, and the Argentine will surely add more bite into the Manchester United attack that has lacked the creative substance, of late. He is also a versatile operator and can cover multiple attacking positions – making it easier for Solskjaer to accommodate him into his offensive setup.
As for Sandro, he could prove to be an upgrade for Luke Shaw, although the ex-Southampton was one of the club’s better performers this past season. The Brazilian international could solidify the backline and help Solskjaer successfully implement his left-sided overload, thanks to his attacking prowess.
Hence, both the players could potentially help United become a more well-rounded team heading into the new campaign. However, it will also introduce the burden of signing a potential replacement for Pogba, and that’s where Solskjaer will need to be careful, provided the move sees the light of the day.
