Manchester United have reportedly been able to poach highly-rated youngster Dillon Hoogewerf, who has been confirmed to be leaving Ajax.
Daily Mail claim that, as per reports in Netherlands, Ajax have lost the battle to retain top prospect Dillon Hoogewerf. The pacy forward is confirmed to be leaving Ajax, who have been unable to convince the talented youngster to stay put, with Manchester United tipped to be his next destination.
The report states that Hoogewerf has intimated his decision to leave to Ajax, with Head of Youth Education at the club, Said Ouaali confirming that the youngster is set to join ‘a foreign club’ that Ouaali opted to not name.
“Dillon has indicated last week that he will leave the club. He is leaving for a foreign club. We wish him a lot of success and know that we have done everything to keep him. He may ultimately make the choice and choose a foreign adventure.”
Dillon Hoogewerf is a top rated prospect at Ajax, with the player recording a credible return of 10 goals and 6 assists in 18 games in the Under-17 Eredivisie, half of which came in the preliminary round. Hoogewerf has since debuted for the Under-19 side and has even featured for Ajax in the UEFA Youth League, albeit not being able to score at the said level.
The 16-year-old has so far featured for Netherlands up till the Under-16s and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Ajax academy starlets Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Millen Baars, both of whom chose to leave the setup in favour of Manchester United.
However, he will be looking to do one better than fellow attacker Millen Baars, who is one of the players rumoured to be on the list of released players by Manchester United in the summer.
Hoogewerf, who caught the eye last summer at the Marveld Tournament, wherein he finished as the top scorer, is expected to agree a deal to join Manchester United and sign the first professional contract of his footballing career with the Premier League giants.
If the Dutch wonderkid is announced before any of the other deals that United are pursuing, it would make the 16-year-old the first signing of the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era at Old Trafford. Given what Ajax’s current squad has been able to achieve this season, United fans will be anticipating for great things from Hoogewerf.
