Liverpool full-back Nathaniel Clyne is gathering plenty of interest from West Ham, Crystal Palace Bournemouth, and Napoli ahead of a move away from Anfield.
Liverpool are expected to sell some of their fringe stars during the summer window and expect to fetch reasonable sums for those leaving. Sky Sports are reporting of the increasing interest in Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne after the Reds slapped a £15 million price tag on the defender as they are ready to let him go.
Clyne’s performances have been decent after signing from Southampton in the summer of 2015. Since then, the English full-back has made over 100 appearances in a red shirt. Recent injuries and the meteoric rise of Trent Alexander-Arnold has left him unwanted at the club as Jurgen Klopp wants the club to move him on.
As mentioned before, his performances have not been a factor for his downfall, and his January loan spell with Bournemouth confirmed that fact. Since joining Eddie Howe’s side in the winter window, Clyne went on to make 15 appearances for the Cherries and has put himself firmly on the market.
Bournemouth do not have an option to purchase, but Clyne could prefer Howe’s style over the others when the window opens. Howe has been impressed enough to ask his club to enquire with Liverpool on the possibility to sign Clyne permanently. However, for Howe, it won’t be that simple, as Premier League rivals, West Ham and Crystal Palace are also showing an interest alongside Napoli.
If Napoli do come calling, it could represent an attractive option for Clyne. The Serie A giants are in the hunt for a right-back, and their search has brought them to the Premier League. The Naples side maintain an interest in Tottenham man Kieran Trippier. They could opt to sign Clyne if they fail in the pursuit of Trippier.
As for West Ham and Crystal Palace, they require a recognised right-back. The Hammers are currently relying upon the ageing Pablo Zabaleta, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is gathering interest from big clubs. Chelsea, Manchester City, United, Tottenham and Arsenal are all lining up Wan Bissaka for a summer transfer despite Crystal Palace’s high valuation of the defender.
At Liverpool, Clyne certainly does not have a future. Alexander-Arnold is the undisputed first-choice for the right-back position and given his performances; it does not seem like the youngster is about to stop. A player like Clyne, still only 28 years old, needs to play regularly at his age. With many years to go, he needs to decide which club might interest him and his playing ambition.
West Ham and Crystal Palace are both attractive options, but he looked settled in the current Bournemouth side. For all those sides, including Napoli, Clyne could represent a good investment. Given his price tag is only £15 million, he could be worth every penny, given his age, experience, and recent performances.
