Manchester United and Manchester City could reportedly go head-to-head for the signature of Isco if Real Madrid decide to sell him this summer.

Real Madrid’s disappointing season could prompt the club into clearing a number of their non-performing stars. Such a move could put Premier League clubs on high alert. As per talkSPORT, a possible tug-of-war between Manchester United and Manchester City for Real Madrid midfielder Isco could be in the offing in the summer window.

Isco’s disappointing season in the white of Madrid has been no secret. Rumours started circling as early as January of an impending departure from the Santiago Bernabeu, when the Spaniard was at odds with Santiago Solari. And, the summer that could shape his future.

The 27-year-old, like his teammates, has had a season to forget. Should Real Madrid decide to cash in on him, there is set to be a transfer scramble for the Spaniard. Los Blancos are already implementing their transfer plans for next season.

The La Liga giants have already secured the €60 million signing of striker Luka Jovic, as per widespread reports. Other high profile players could follow the Serb, including Eden Hazard and Paul Pogba. Before signing those kinds of players, it would be necessary to trim their vast squad.

PSG, as expected, are in the mix and are rumoured to be on the trails of three Real Madrid stars including Isco. Manchester City are another club that have been interested in signing Isco for some time, but now even Manchester United are very much in the race for the Spaniard.

Speaking of Manchester United, they have their share of problems with the future of star man Pogba still uncertain. In case they eye Isco’s signing, they are better placed to do a deal and could look to have the Spaniard involved in any deal that sees Pogba make the switch to Real Madrid.

As for Manchester City, they would want a player to replace their midfield maestro, David Silva, who is in the twilight of his career. The past season was proof that Pep Guardiola is slowly phasing the experienced midfielder out of his Manchester City setup. Isco, with his style of play, could be the perfect replacement Guardiola could imagine for Silva and could view him as a quality addition.

Isco made 37 appearances last season, most of which came off the bench. He could only muster 6 goals and a solitary assist in all competitions and the Real Madrid board, along with Zinedine Zidane could decide to sell him off. At 27, he still has a long career left, and a switch to the Premier League could be the preferred choice if he does end up leaving.

Fitting into either Manchester club should not be a problem for the experienced attacker. However, it could become a tough decision to choose which one. He would be a brilliant addition for either of them, although the availability of Champions League football could just tip the scales. An interesting summer beckons.
