Manchester United are reportedly set to cash in on David de Gea after his decision to snub the club’s latest and final contract offer.

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United continue to refuse David de Gea’s demands of a £350,000-a-week deal. The Spanish international has turned down United’s latest and final offer, meaning the Premier League heavyweights are ready to cash in on him in the summer transfer window.

David de Gea has been a true stalwart for Manchester United in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, having singlehandedly won several matches for the side. But, the 2018-19 season saw de Gea endure a fall from grace of seismic proportions, after making a number of high profile errors.

Even so, despite his error-strewn performances, de Gea remains an indispensable figure at Old Trafford, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refusing to drop him from his side. However, the confidence in his abilities have not translated into the player acknowledging his confidence in Solskjaer’s plans.

Manchester United have failed to reach an agreement with de Gea over a new contract, even though they had initiated the process well over a year ago. The 28-year-old remains adamant that United must meet his demands of a £350,000-a-week deal, if they are to secure his long-term future.

The report though, suggests that Manchester United have failed to agree to his demands, with de Gea rejecting their latest and, what appears to be, final contract offer. With PSG reportedly willing to match his stipulation, it is likely that a summer sale could be in the offing.

While the Ligue 1 champions are lining up a £60 million bid, which might help the Red Devils’ cause, there are also suggestions that they could be willing to wait for a year before acquiring his services on a free transfer next year.

Either way, Manchester United’s unwillingness to offer de Gea a £350,000-a-week deal and subsequent failure to reach an agreement over a new contract is definitely a blow for Solskjaer, who is already facing a daunting rebuilding job following a tumultuous 2018-19 campaign.

David de Gea now looks set to become the second key player to leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window, with Ander Herrera already confirming his departure. Chances are, both the Spaniards could end up teaming up once again, with PSG hot on their pursuit.
