Real Madrid have reportedly entered into talks to sign Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah in the summer transfer window.
According to Canal+, Real Madrid have set their sights on Mohamed Salah over a move in the summer transfer window. The La Liga heavyweights have, in fact, begun talks with the Liverpool superstar, with Zinedine Zidane keen on securing his services.
Mohamed Salah has experienced a stunning rise to fame since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in the summer of 2017. Having impressed in bits and pieces during his time in Italy, the Egyptian was not expected to take the Premier League by storm.
But, he has fit Jurgen Klopp’s system perfectly, so much so that he has been one of the most prolific players in Europe over the last two seasons. As far as the Premier League is concerned, Salah has won the Golden Boot in each of his two campaigns with Liverpool. And, his exploits have caught the attention of Real Madrid.
That Real Madrid failed to adequately replace Cristiano Ronaldo, even in terms of goalscoring contributions, let alone impact over the first-team, is well documented. With the Portuguese star’s void not being filled at the Bernabeu, Los Blancos endured one of their poorest seasons in recent memory, and will finish 2018-19 without a single major trophy.
But, with the summer transfer window approaching, Real Madrid are expected to be busy over the two months that it will be open, with a squad overhaul in the offing. Attack seems to be a priority for Zinedine Zidane, and the Merengues are already set to sign Eden Hazard. Up next on their agenda seems to be Liverpool talisman Salah.
A scintillating return of 70 goals and 29 assists in 103 appearances for Liverpool suggests Salah could have what it takes to replace the goals and assists that Ronaldo brought to the plate. At the same time, he could be the ideal replacement for the struggling Gareth Bale, who has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid lately.
And, the report suggests that Real Madrid have made initial contacts with Salah over a summer move. Canal+ further add that Los Blancos will have to go close to the €222 million world record sum in order to secure the services of Salah.
But, the developments do seem interesting, with his agent recent rebuffing rumours of Salah wanting to leave Liverpool. It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid indeed launch the offensive for the 26-year-old, although the logistics of financing a move for him in addition to several others do seem suspect.
