Transfer News: Luka Jovic completes Real Madrid medical ahead of €60 million move

Real Madrid seem to have secured the signature of highly sought-after striker Luka Jovic, with the Eintracht Frankfurt reportedly completing his medical.

If the report from Sky Sports is to be believed, Luka Jovic is set to be a Real Madrid player and don the Los Blancos jersey in the 2019-20 campaign and onwards. The Eintracht Frankfurt striker has reportedly completed his medical ahead of the proposed move, which will cost Real €60 million.

The report states that Jovic has agreed a five-year deal with Real Madrid, who are set to pay the Serb €10 million annually over the period of the contract. Frankfurt had already activated the clause in his loan deal and will be due to pay SL Benfica the quoted portion of the transfer fee.

Luka Jovic has had a wondrous 2018-19 campaign, one which has made the European elites in the top five leagues sit up and take note of the Serb’s talent. A total of 27 goals and 7 assists in the Bundesliga and Europa League combined, Jovic has fired Frankfurt to sixth on the Bundesliga table and a semi-final run in the UEFA Europa League before falling to Chelsea on penalties.

Jovic has had almost every top European club trail him in recent months. But, latest reports always pointed towards a move to Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane has returned to manage Real Madrid once again and while he has had a history of preferring Karim Benzema, who has had his best season in recent years, the Frenchman is keen on adding to his attack.

As much as Benzema has shown he can step up, Zidane knows Real Madrid need another quality option upfront if they are to make a considerable return to battle Barcelona for the La Liga title and compete for other top honours simultaneously next season.

Eden Hazard has been reported to be nearing a move to Real Madrid as well. But, the Belgian is expected to slot into the first-team setup as a replacement for Gareth Bale, who is tipped to be on his way out of the Bernabeu in the summer.

Jovic is the man in form and will be a refreshing addition to the forward line at Real Madrid. Under Zidane, Real were known to feed their forwards well and be quick on the counter, both of which will benefit the Eintracht Frankfurt striker a great deal.

There might be doubts as to whether Jovic will be able to emulate his heroics on a more consistent basis. But, the 21-year-old is likely to be given ample time to adjust to surroundings. A shrewd piece of business from Real Madrid, who look intent on sending out a strong signal that they will not tolerate another season like the 2018-19 campaign.
