Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly ready to axe French superstar Anthony Martial owing to concerns over his attitude.
If the report by The Sun is to be believed, Anthony Martial could be about to make his way out of Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been left unimpressed by the Frenchman’s poor attitude, particularly in training, and the Manchester United manager is thus, set to offload him in the summer transfer window.
Anthony Martial has always been an enigmatic quantity since making his way to Manchester United from AS Monaco in the summer of 2015. Now into his fourth year at the club, his maiden campaign at Old Trafford remains his best yet for the 23-year-old, which is quite a damning indictment towards his inconsistent performances.
The same was prevalent under former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, who had his reservations about the player and almost sold him last summer. Upon Mourinho’s departure, Martial initially performed well under the tutelage of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
A strong start to life under Solskjaer also earned Martial a new long-term contract, with his previous deal being set to run out in the summer of 2020. But, after going through some injury troubles a couple of months ago, the Frenchman has not been the same player.
The attacking superstar has struggled to impose himself on games, even flitting out altogether in some outings, like he did against Everton last month. Since the Everton game, Martial has not started another match for Manchester United, having also been left out of the matchday squad to face Huddersfield Town this past weekend.
It now looks like the tension seems to have boiled over, with Solskjaer ready to part ways with Martial in the summer transfer window, as per the report. The French superstar had recently come under a lot of scrutiny after footage of him casually strolling and doing keepy-uppies during a training session surfaced.
Solskjaer has also been left frustrated by the player’s lax attitude during training, and it looks like he could join Alexis Sanchez on the transfer list at Manchester United. The report, however, does not mention a potential suitor.
For now, it looks like Anthony Martial could be part of those who leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window, as part of another major rebuilding project, this time to be undertaken by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
