Manchester United are reportedly leading the hunt for the signature of Swansea City winger Daniel James, who is also being tailed by Liverpool.
Daily Mail have reported that Daniel James is set for a move to the Premier League. The Swansea City winger has been tailed by Liverpool and Manchester United, with the report stating that the Red Devils are leading the hunt for the star, who is also chased by other unnamed Premier League clubs.
Daniel James is not a new name and was earlier in the news during the January transfer window, with the star seemingly set for a move to Leeds United. But, his move was cancelled on deadline day as Swansea pulled out of the transfer, with the Welsh club being lambasted by the player’s agent for the scuppered deal.
Already a Welsh international, Daniel James is a Hull City academy product who chose to join Swansea to be a part of their youth team in 2014 before ultimately making his way into their first-team setup in 2018.
James has since shown form worthy of drawing interest, with 5 goals and 10 assists to his name this season so far, including a stunning solo goal in the FA Cup tie against Brentford that made everyone sit up and take note of his potential.
The closest James has come to playing in the Premier League is in 2016 when he was named on the bench by Swansea against Stoke City. But, his Premier League dream could soon come true, with an array of top-flight clubs interested in the 21-year-old, including Liverpool and Manchester United.
Liverpool have an enviable attacking trio leading their frontline. But, the comeback against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final proved that players like Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi are no less than superstars in their own right. However, somehow, Jurgen Klopp is reportedly still intent on improving his options in attack.
Manchester United though, are nowhere near the level of performances that Liverpool and Manchester City have been producing this season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly ready to chuck out the deadwood and other stars who are proving to be ‘difficult’.
Anthony Martial is one of the players that look set for the axe along with Alexis Sanchez, which would vacate the left wing completely. Solskjaer is looking to build a British core squad, which justifies United’s interest in James. Manchester United are frontrunners and other teams could bow out fearing that United might already have this deal under wraps.
James will have just one year left on his contract in the summer and will likely cost £10 million, which means Manchester United could be set to land a bargain, judging by the 21-year-old’s current career graph. Solskjaer is looking to carry out a massive rebuilding process and we might just see Daniel James be a part of the potentially new-look Manchester United for the 2019-20 season.
