Transfer News: Manchester United ready to hijack Youri Tielemans deal

The 21-year-old Belgian has attracted plenty of interest, and Manchester United are the latest entrant as they hope to steal him from under Leicester’s noses.

There is plenty talk of Manchester United’s plans when the summer window re-opens as the club are preparing to bring in a few players. The Sun are reporting of possible interest in Youri Tielemans, who currently is on loan at Leicester City from Monaco, with the report claiming that United could hijack the move from under the noses of the Foxes.

Tielemans has been a top performer since moving to England with Leicester when he joined on loan from parent club Monaco. Having spent 18 months at the French club, he never had the impact everyone expected of him, although he is playing in top-gear at Leicester. The Foxes, however, do not have the option in his loan contract to buy him outright and will have to negotiate a price with Monaco.

His performances since moving to the Premier League in January has attracted the interest of many clubs in the division including Manchester United. According to reports, the Red Devils will look to pursue the player’s signature actively when the summer window opens, although they might have their work cut out by Leicester’s interest.

Tielemans is widely believed to have given the nod to a permanent transfer to Leicester. Monaco have quoted a price of £40 million, something Leicester are ready to pay, although with Manchester United and possibly other big clubs entering the race, Tielemans might have a tricky decision on his hands when the season ends.

Manchester United have multiple problems to deal with once the season ends, especially if they do not qualify for the Champions League, which could lead to some players leaving. Among those speculated to move away are midfielders Ander Herrera, who has reportedly agreed on a move to PSG, while Paul Pogba’s future has come under increasing speculation regarding a move to Real Madrid.

The Frenchman might even be allowed to leave the club when the season ends, and Tielemans could be viewed as a viable replacement. Irrespective of Pogba going, there could be a strong chance United would like to sign the player for the qualities he possesses. Additionally, for United, the £40 million fees could pose no problems at all.

Tielemans’ final decision will have a significant effect on his next destination. The Belgian had earlier suggested he wanted to stay put at Leicester could have a change of heart amid interest from big clubs such as United. Leicester are confident about landing him, but would certainly try to bring the price down for it may punch a hole in their budget for next season.

Overall, Tielemans to Manchester United does looks like an attractive prospect. The player has been proving his worth in the Premier League since January and signing him will mean United could have a player ready to set the league on fire in the seasons to come.
