Manchester United contract rebel Ander Herrera is reportedly on the verge of sealing a summer move to French champions PSG.
As per a report from French outlet RMC Sport, Manchester United’s wantaway midfielder Ander Herrera is set to join European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain, after reaching a contract agreement with the Ligue 1 champions.
The 29-year-old Herrera joined Manchester United from La Liga side Athletic Bilbao in 2014 and over the years has grown into a fan favourite at Old Trafford. The midfielder has racked up 187 appearances for the club till date, winning an FA Cup, a League Cup and the UEFA Europa League.
Herrera has just a few months left on his contract with Manchester United and will be free to leave the club at the end of the season, leading to strong interest from French champions PSG. Negotiations over a new deal between him and the Red Devils have been underway for quite a while, but the two parties haven’t been able to arrive at an agreement.
It had been reported that Herrera is holding out for a pay packet close to £200,000-a-week including bonuses, which Manchester United were unwilling to match, leading to a contract stand-off. The midfielder had recently confirmed as much, claiming that talks were going on but no conclusion had been arrived at.
With Herrera’s situation at Manchester United not getting resolved, PSG have swooped in to sign him up on a Bosman deal. The Ligue 1 champions will be losing Adrien Rabiot at the end of the season when his contract runs out, while fellow midfielder Christopher Nkunku could also be on his way out, after rejecting a new contract offer made by the club.
According to the report, Herrera has reached an agreement with PSG over the wages, with the only thing left to be decided being the length of the contract. The club are yet to take a call on whether the 29-year-old Spaniard should be offered a four or five-year deal. No complications are expected though, and the deal should go through in the coming days, the report adds.
Herrera has featured 26 times for Manchester United in the ongoing season, scoring and assisting three goals apiece. The midfielder had shown signs of growing into a key member of the side under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but injuries have meant that he has played just twice in all competitions since March.
Arsenal too were reported to be interested in making a last-ditch attempt to sign Herrera, but if the report from RMC Sport is anything to go by, the 29-year-old is all set to become a PSG player from the upcoming season.
