Transfer News: Inter Milan willing to offer Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez a way out provided he takes a pay cut

Alexis Sanchez is reportedly set to be offered an escape route from Manchester United by Serie A side Inter Milan, provided he is willing to take a huge pay cut.

According to a report from The Independent, Alexis Sanchez’s nightmarish stint at Manchester United could be coming to an end in the summer. Serie A giants Inter Milan are willing to offer him a way out of the club, subject to the condition that the Chilean reduces his wage demands drastically.

Sanchez arrived at Manchester United in January last year from arch-rivals Arsenal in a deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move the other way. The Chilean’s signing was met with huge expectations, given that he had established himself as one of the best attackers in the Premier League during his time with the Gunners.

The 30-year-old was handed a bumper contract worth around £500,000-a-week, with bonuses, but he has hardly done anything to live up to the billing. In his 43 appearances for Manchester United till date, Sanchez has managed paltry returns of just 5 goals and 9 assists and has failed to establish himself as a regular in the side under both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

With Manchester United keen on boosting up their attacking ranks ahead of the next season, they will need to offload some players in the summer. And Sanchez would be at the top of the list of players that could be sold, given how poor he has been and the monumental wages he commands.

However, having seen his form nosedive in the past year or so, there are not many clubs interested in signing up the Chilean. Inter Milan, though, are willing to offer the 30-year-old Sanchez a lifeline, but have made it clear that a move would be possible only if the player is willing to take a drastic pay cut.

Inter Milan sit third in the Serie A table currently and should qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, which would provide them with a good budget to operate. And attack is an area that the Nerazzurri will be looking to strengthen, with star striker Mauro Icardi’s future at the club far from certain.

The likes of Matteo Politano and Keita Balde Diao will also be leaving the club once their respective loan deals expire at the end of the season, making the signing of a new attacker a top priority for Inter. And Sanchez could definitely use a change of scenery in the summer, as he looks to resurrect his career.

Wages could prove to be the stumbling block for the deal to go through, but the report adds that Sanchez is considering reducing his demands. Along with Inter, there has been some degree of interest from Juventus as well.

A move would come as a win-win situation for all parties involved as Manchester United will be offloading an underperforming player who is on massive wages, while Inter will be adding to their attack and Sanchez will be getting a chance to resurrect his career. It remains to be seen if there is any progress made on this front though.
