Transfer News: Tottenham lead Manchester United, PSG in race to land Ryan Sessegnon

Tottenham are reportedly in the lead in the summer pursuit of Fulham teen sensation Ryan Sessegnon, who is also being tailed by Manchester United.

Ryan Sessegnon is one of the Fulham stars that might not have to play Championship football again, with Fulham relegated from the Premier League. The Sun report that Tottenham, Manchester United and PSG are all interested in the youngster, with Spurs the favourites for now.

Ryan Sessegnon emerged as a sensation while plying his trade for Fulham in the Championship in the 2017-18 campaign, wherein he won five awards, including the Young Player of the Season and being named in the Championship Best Eleven. Sessegnon boasted of great returns, with 15 goals and 6 assists in the regular Championship season.

Sessegnon’s maiden Premier League campaign hasn’t been as great though. While he has 31 league appearances to his name, he was played at six different positions and has never managed to feel settled this season, with a meagre return of 2 goals and 6 assists.

Fulham have unfortunately been relegated, despite spending big in the summer of 2018. The coming summer will be one of rebuilding with hopes of jumping straight back into the Premier League. But, Sessegnon might not be a part of their challenge, with the youngster on the radar of Manchester United, Tottenham and PSG.

Sessegnon has shown an ability to play at almost all the wide positions across the field, except as a right-back. Manchester United are looking to bring the youngster in as a deputy to Luke Shaw and to fight for places up ahead in the left wing position as well, with Alexis Sanchez on the chopping block.

Tottenham, on the other hand, are looking to add Sessegnon to their roster, amid uncertainty over their current stars. Ben Davies and Danny Rose have both been linked with moves in the recent past and should they decide to move on, Mauricio Pochettino wants a new player ready to take their place.

The three-man defensive line could utilise Sessegnon’s attacking skills perfectly, with the youngster likely to be fielded as a left wing-back. In fact it is Pochettino’s presence that seems to have made Spurs the favourites to land the 18-year-old. The Argentinean has gained a reputation for nurturing young budding talent and Sessegnon could be hoping to follow suit, like Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

After having not spent any money in the last couple of transfer windows, Pochettino will be looking to reinforce the squad in hopes of mounting a better title challenge and compete for other trophies as well.

PSG are also in the race and will battle Manchester United and Tottenham for the Fulham star. But, one thing has become near certain. Fulham are going down and Sessegnon is unlikely to be joining them in the Championship for the coming season.
