Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly both interested in and set for a summer battle in pursuit of Ajax sensation David Neres.

The Sun have speculated that the amount of admirers for David Neres have increased. Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly interested in the Ajax sensation, who has also been recently linked to other Premier League clubs like Everton and Liverpool.

Born in Sao Paulo, which is regarded as one of the proper homes of football, David Neres played for Sao Paulo in Brazil before moving to Ajax in January, 2017. The 2018-19 season though, has catapulted Neres into the limelight, with the Brazilian netting 12 goals and providing 15 assists so far this season.

A couple of his main attributes that have really come to the fore is his ability to be a match-winner and relish the big matches, with Neres scoring against Real Madrid and Juventus in the Champions League so far. His performances have drawn interest from several clubs like Liverpool and Everton, with Arsenal and Manchester United now joining the chase.

Arsenal need natural wide men in their squad, the lack of which has seen Unai Emery field the likes of Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and others out wide when deploying a 4-2-3-1 formation. Emery would love to add wide players with a bit of flair and ability to fill up the creative hole that Aaron Ramsey’s summer departure will create.

Manchester United’s squad, on the other hand, has been crying out for a natural right-sided winger. The lack of a natural winger on the right has seen their attack become left-heavy, something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping to rectify in the summer transfer window.

Jadon Sancho has been furiously linked with Manchester United. But, Solskjaer could turn to Neres, who also prefers the right side, is a bit more experienced in European football than Sancho and will cost less than the English international.

The two teams will have a battle at hand, not just among themselves. Everton were recently linked with Neres, as were Liverpool. The report names Chelsea as one of the suitors as well, although the Blues are unlikely to be able to sign anyone due to their transfer ban.

Valued at £45 million, Neres will be an asset to any of Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton or whichever team he ends up at. Ajax, on the other hand, will be looking to get as much as possible, with the club aware that it will be nigh impossible to retain the 22-year-old amid such widespread interest.
