According to Tony Cascarino, Leicester City playmaker James Maddison would be the perfect replacement for Aaron Ramsey at Arsenal.
In his column for The Times, Tony Cascarino has made an interesting claim to solve Arsenal’s bid to replace Aaron Ramsey in the summer transfer window. The former Irish forward has iterated that the Gunners should secure the services of Leicester City playmaker James Maddison in the summer transfer window.
James Maddison has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame over the last couple of seasons. The 2017-18 campaign saw the English playmaker become a pivotal figure for Norwich City, with returns of 15 goals and 11 assists in 49 appearances. His exploits with the Canaries earned him a move to Leicester City, where he has been in fine form as well.
A tally of 7 goals and 6 assists in 31 Premier League outings is quite impressive for a player who is in his first campaign in the top-flight. And, as per Tony Cascarino, the 22-year-old is ready to make a big move to one of the best clubs in the world – Arsenal.
“I look at Maddison and I think, “Arsenal is your team.” The long goal for the north London side is targeting certain players in the summer and Maddison should be the man to replace Aaron Ramsey. There are not many great No 10s in world football but Arsenal desperately need someone who plays like the Leicester City man.”
“The problem for No 10s is that most are asked to work without the ball. The role was deemed a luxury in past, their job was to create chances and make a difference in attack. You have to be very gifted to do that and nine out of ten gifted players do not want to work without the ball. Maddison’s work-rate is good and getting better. There is no question about whether he is technical enough for the top flight.”
Ramsey is set to call it quits at Arsenal in the summer transfer window, when his contract runs out. The Welshman has already agreed a deal to join Juventus, meaning the Gunners will be in need of signing a replacement.
And, judging by the form that Maddison has exhibited in his maiden Premier League campaign, he could perhaps be the ideal long-term replacement for Ramsey at the Emirates. But, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal do launch the offensive for the 22-year-old, as Tony Cascarino has suggested, or if he stays put at Leicester City.
