Real Madrid target Paul Pogba reportedly wants a new deal worth £500,000 per week to stay at Manchester United beyond the summer transfer window.

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United have begun the process of tying Paul Pogba to a bumper new deal, so as to ward off interest from Real Madrid. The Frenchman though, is set to demand a £500,000-a-week contract in order to stay put at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba has had his fair share of ups and downs since returning to Manchester United from Juventus in the summer of 2016. The first two-and-a-half years saw him go from being the go-to man for Jose Mourinho to being at odds with him. Since Mourinho’s dismissal, however, the Frenchman has been in fine form for the most part.

But, recent comments admitting to his dream of securing a future move to Real Madrid have put Pogba’s future at Manchester United up in the air, having piqued the interest of the La Liga heavyweights.

Judging by the general performance of the midfielders this season, it is hardly surprising that midfield could possibly be one of the priorities for Real Madrid. The need to bolster the options in the middle of the park was evident once again this week, as Luka Modric and Toni Kroos were dreadful in Los Blancos’ 2-1 loss to Valencia.

With Modric seemingly in the twilight of his career and Kroos regressing considerably this season, turning towards Pogba to be the lynchpin in midfield might not be a bad idea for Real Madrid. However, Manchester United will not go down without a fight and are ready to open talks with the 26-year-old over a renewal.

While Pogba’s current contract still has two years – and an additional option to extend it by 12 months – left to run, Manchester United are hoping to offer him improved terms so as to convince him to stay put at Old Trafford. But, as per the report, the French midfielder wants a £500,000-a-week deal to rebuff the interest from Real Madrid.

With Ander Herrera being heavily linked with a move away from the club, Mino Raiola is hoping to use Manchester United’s desperation to retain the services of Pogba to his and the player’s benefit. Should the Red Devils be ready to agree to the eye watering deal, it would make Pogba their highest paid player.

For now, what appears to be certain is that Real Madrid are considering a big money move to sign Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window. It now remains to be seen if Manchester United are willing to hand their prized asset a £500,000-a-week deal to keep hold of him, or if he ends up leaving instead.
