Romelu Lukaku is likely to come in for Anthony Martial when Manchester United take the trip to Molineux to take on Wolves on Tuesday.
Manchester United will be aiming to reclaim their place in the Premier League top four when they lock horns with Wolves at Molineux on Tuesday night. And, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be bouyed by the fact that he has just four bit-part players unavailable ahead of the midweek fixture.
Three of these players are defenders, with Matteo Darmian, Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia all slated to return to action this month. The good news though, is that Victor Lindelof is available after missing out against Watford due to personal reasons.
Solskjaer provided an update on the Swede during his pre-match press conference, saying, “Victor is not injured but he’s had some issues. He had a tough week so Victor will come back soon.” The Manchester United manager also talked about the four absentees.
“Victor has had a good few days of training now so he’ll be ready. Apart from that, [Matteo] Darmian and Eric [Bailly] are still out. [Antonio] Valencia is still out and Alexis Sanchez is still out. But it’s a good strong squad.”
With Lindelof deemed ready to feature, Chris Smalling should have the Swede as his partner at the heart of the Manchester United defence against Wolves. The two full-back slots are unlikely to see a change, however, with Ashley Young and Luke Shaw keeping their places in the side. Behind them, David de Gea is nailed on as the first-choice goalkeeper.
In the middle of the park, Solskjaer is not expected to make any shuffles despite the fact that Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera looked a little out of sorts against Watford. There is no looking past Paul Pogba either, with Jesse Lingard set to complete the midfield diamond, replacing Juan Mata.
Upfront, Marcus Rashford has made one of the positions his own. The final spot in the side though, will be contested between Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku, who are both fit to start, as per Solskjaer, who said, “Anthony and Romelu will both be ready for tomorrow, definitely, unless they break down in training today [Monday] but it looks good, yeah.”
Lukaku is likely to usurp Martial despite the latter’s goal against Watford, with the Manchester United boss giving the Frenchman some more time to recover from the knock he picked up this past weekend.
