Transfer News: Inter Milan wants Barcelona’s Malcom

The Serie A side have reignited their interest in out-of-favour Barcelona winger Malcom and remain confident of landing him in the summer.

Inter Milan are expected to make some essential signings in the summer window to strengthen their squad ahead of next season. Sport are reporting of a possible Inter move for Barcelona winger Malcom, who has struggled for game time at Camp Nou since arriving last summer.

Inter’s interest in the Brazilian is nothing new, after the Italian club’s approach to take Malcom on loan in January was knocked down by Barcelona. Inter still seem hopeful, as they are back in the hunt for the out-of-favour winger by offering him an escape route from his Barcelona nightmare.

Barcelona controversially beat Roma last summer to sign Malcom after agreeing a €41 million deal with Bordeaux. Malcom was assumed to have signed for Roma until the Catalans swooped in at the last moment. But the adventure hasn’t gone to plan, and the winger has found himself out of Ernesto Valverde’s plans for the season.

He did start the pre-season on fire, but has been on the periphery since, making only 8 league appearances and scoring no goals. He got two goals in the Copa Del Rey and one in the Champions League, but in general, has failed to live up to the expectations at Camp Nou.

Inter are understood to still maintain an interest in Malcom, and Barcelona are expecting some offers for him. Inter, are in the market for a left-sided attacker and have their eyes on Malcom. The Italians are also looking at other options for players of a similar profile, although they are understood to rate Malcom quite high.

There are other ongoing problems and speculations in Inter’s attack. For instance, Ivan Perisic being continuously linked to the Premier League and Keita Balde not entirely convincing to sign him permanently. Signing Malcom on a permanent transfer will solve a problem or two for Inter.

Barcelona, having used him sporadically over the season, could be open to the idea of recovering as much as possible of what they paid to Bordeaux. The Catalans believe, that despite Malcom playing so less, there are plenty of clubs who still remain interested and believe in his talents. Barcelona are thus hoping to recover at least the €41 million they paid for him.

Along with Inter, other clubs were linked with Malcom in January. Arsenal tried to make a late deal, while Everton too were in for him, and despite all the attention, Malcom stayed put. That may not be the case in the summer, and with many clubs expected to come in for him, it remains to be seen if he prefers Inter or maybe makes a move to the Premier League.
