Transfer News: Manchester United to prioritise £100 million Jadon Sancho pursuit over defensive targets

Manchester United are reportedly set to prioritise their £100 million pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho instead of defensive targets.

If the report by The Sun is to be believed, Manchester United intend to secure the services of Jadon Sancho at any cost in the summer transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights are ready to give precedence to the £100 million pursuit of the in-form English winger instead of reinforcing the back four.

Jadon Sancho has become a cult figure of sorts since taking the brave decision to leave the shores of England to make his way to Germany while still in his teens. And, the teenage prodigy’s decision has been vindicated after being slowly eased in to the Borussia Dortmund first-team setup last season.

But, his exploits in the current campaign have taken all of Europe by storm – Sancho has 8 goals and 13 assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances and has become a mainstay in attack for Dortmund. His advent has particularly caught the eye of Manchester United, as per widespread reports.

The Premier League heavyweights have been eager to bolster the right wing slot for several transfer windows now, but have been unable to do so. Jesse Lingard is the only United player who has been able to make any sort of impact out wide on the right flank, but he too prefers veering inwards into central areas.

Sancho is thus, a viable target, seeing as he can play across the three possible attacking positions behind the central striker and provide width on the right flank. That his vision and creativity will take some of the burden off Paul Pogba only makes him an even more appealing a prospect for Manchester United.

To that end, the Red Devils are plotting a summer move for Sancho, and are reportedly willing to break their transfer record by shelling out £100 million for the Borussia Dortmund winger. And, The Sun claim that United are ready to do so at the cost of signing a centre-back.

Manchester United have indeed been linked with a number of centre-backs over the last one year, with Portuguese sensation Ruben Dias reportedly being the latest central defender they are interested in. But, Sancho is now their priority.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is now being widely tipped to become the full-time Manchester United boss, is willing to give the likes of Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling a longer run after impressing in recent weeks. Therefore, the focus will instead be on going all out in pursuit of Sancho.

Manchester United are ready to break the bank in order to sign Jadon Sancho, although it remains to be seen if the player himself is open to the idea of returning to England. For now, it looks like a £100 million could be in the offing in the summer transfer window.
