Jose Mourinho is now on PSG’s shortlist of possible replacements for Thomas Tuchel after being snubbed by Real Madrid.
If the report by The Sun is to be believed, Jose Mourinho has emerged on the radar of PSG, who are identifying possible managerial options if they sack Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. The news comes in the wake of a shock announcement by Real Madrid, who had previously been linked with him, confirming the reappointment of Zinedine Zidane as the first-team boss.
The 2018-19 season seems to be one in which Jose Mourinho just cannot seem to catch a break. With Manchester United embarking on their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign and languishing at sixth on the table, the Portuguese was shown the exit door at Old Trafford back in December.
Since being sacked by United, Mourinho has been working as a pundit with beIN Sports, but was being heavily linked with the Real Madrid in recent weeks, as per widespread reports. Former Real president Ramon Calderon had also iterated the same, claiming Los Blancos were in talks with the 56-year-old to become the first-team manager.
But, Real Madrid ended up snubbing Mourinho by making a shock announcement to confirm that another former manager, Zinedine Zidane was replacing Santiago Solari with immediate effect on Monday evening. The Portuguese tactician still has his suitors though, with PSG now showing an interest.
PSG have their sights set on Mourinho and are weighing up the decision to appoint him as their next manager after the end of the season. Les Parisiens are fighting for just two trophies, having been knocked out of Coupe de la Ligue and the UEFA Champions League.
The elimination from Europe’s premier club competition particularly stings at Parc des Princes, with PSG being booted out of the tournament by Manchester United, having held a two-goal lead after the first leg. Each of the managers before Tuchel have been dismissed for failing to deliver success in Europe, and Tuchel seems to be falling into the same category, as per the report.
Should they end up axing the German manager, Mourinho is PSG’s preferred candidate to take over at the helm at Parc des Princes. The return to management with the Ligue 1 champions will give the former Real Madrid boss another chance to become the first manager to win the UEFA Champions League with three different clubs.
As far as PSG are concerned, Mourinho is a rare available manager with the history of winning their elusive prize, which certainly makes him appealing. The decision to appoint Jose Mourinho, however, rests on the future of Thomas Tuchel, and it remains to be seen if the former Real Madrid manager ends up making his way to the French capital for his next project.
