Manchester United are reportedly considering a loan move for academy ace Tahith Chong for the whole of next season, with Ajax interested.
According to a report by The Sun, Tahith Chong is primed for a loan move away from Manchester United in the summer transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights believe the teenage academy ace could benefit immensely from such a move, with clubs from Holland and Germany showing an interest in him.
Tahith Chong is a name that has been much revered in the Manchester United youth setup ever since he joined the club’s academy from Feyenoord in 2016. But, even before making his way to the Premier League giants, the youngster had earned a lot of admirers in his homeland, having made waves at boyhood club Feyenoord.
Ever since joining Manchester United, the teenage prodigy has progressed quickly, having already become an indispensable figure for the under-23 side. In particular, he has impressed with his ability to play across the front line, using his bagful of tricks and burst of pace to good effect.
But, upon travelling with the first-team for their pre-season tour to USA, Chong has been primed to fast track to the senior side in due course. And, the player has been given his chances in a few cameos, with the injury crisis in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side helping his cause.
The latest of his appearances came in the form of his UEFA Champions League debut, wherein Manchester United handed a shock 3-1 loss to PSG to progress to the quarter-finals. But, chances with the first-team are likely to be hard to come by for Chong next season, with the attacking department being stacked with top class individuals.
To that end, United are eager to send their academy ace on a loan move away from Old Trafford in the summer. And, there is no shortage of interest in him, with clubs from Holland and Germany angling for him ever since last summer’s transfer window, as per The Sun. In particular, Ajax are eager to sign Chong on a season-long loan deal.
The Dutch giants’ style of play could well aid the player’s progress, with the impetus being on playing beautiful attacking football. But, when out on loan, playing regular first-team football is what counts, with the likes of Dean Henderson and Axel Tuanzebe benefiting from their experiences at their respective clubs.
Conversely, a player like Timothy Fosu-Mensah has not had the best of times out on loan at Fulham, and a similar situation would not be ideal for Manchester United and Chong. Nevertheless, it can be argued that a loan move away to a top club could help the 19-year-old’s cause immensely, and it remains to be seen if he can secure such a transfer in the summer.
