Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Bruno Fernandes, who is valued at £50 million by Sporting Lisbon, over a summer move.

According to a report by Portuguese outlet A Bola, Manchester United have taken the first steps towards securing the services of Bruno Fernandes. The Premier League heavyweights have initiated talks with the representatives of the Sporting Lisbon attacker, who is reportedly valued at around £50 million.

Bruno Fernandes is one of the few superstars who emerged out of the storm of the training ground attack by Sporting Lisbon fans last year and remained at the club following a mass exodus. The player’s decision to stay has been vindicated, having also been entrusted with the responsibility of being the club captain.

His figures make for a tremendous reading, with the 24-year-old amassing 23 goals and 13 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions so far this term. His exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Manchester United reportedly being linked with him in recent weeks.

Manchester United have been formidable for the most part in the final third ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho. But, Juan Mata is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, with his current contract set to run out in the summer.

While talks over a new deal are reportedly underway, United could find themselves in a situation to replace the Spaniard, should he end up leaving. In such a situation, Fernandes could be an ideal replacement for the Premier League heavyweights to sign, with the Portuguese international also capable of adding goals to the side, which ought to be appealing.

A Bola have now reported that Manchester United have taken their first steps to sign the 24-year-old, having made overtures to Sporting Lisbon and the player’s camp over the possibility of landing him in the summer transfer window. With the Portuguese giants dealing with a financial crisis, it is believed a move could happen.

Fernandes’ contract contains a release clause worth £86 million, although Daily Mirror have claimed that the aforementioned financial crisis could see Sporting being open to offload their prized possession for a cut-price £50 million.

Manchester United though, will have to continue moving quickly, however, with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool also showing an interest in signing their top target. It now remains to be seen how talks progress between the Red Devils and Sporting Lisbon, and if Bruno Fernandes ends up making his way to Old Trafford in the summer.
