Arsenal’s academy prospect Xavier Amaechi is attracting serious interest from across Europe, with German champions Bayern Munich among the long list of suitors.
As per an exclusive report from Football.London, Arsenal’s academy ace Xavier Amaechi is being targeted by Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, while as many as 14 other German clubs are watching the teenager.
The 18-year-old Amaechi is regarded as one of the finest exponents of the Gunners’ youth academy and has been tipped for a very bright future in the game. A right-sided winger by trade, Amaechi signed his first professional contract with the North London outfit at the age of 17, which runs out in the summer of 2020.
Amaechi has earned rave reviews for his performances for the Gunners’ reserve team under the tutelage former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg. So far in the ongoing campaign, the teenager has featured 8 times for the Arsenal Under-23 side in the Premier League 2, contributing with 3 goals and 5 assists in the process.
The 18-year-old’s progress had been halted by a metatarsal injury, from which he has returned only recently. Amaechi is yet to make his first-team debut for Arsenal, with the injury denying him the opportunities in this season’s UEFA Europa League, where manager Unai Emery has given a number of young players a lot of chances.
Known for his blistering pace and the ability to breeze past opponents, the 18-year-old has attracted a lot of admirers across Europe. The report from Football.London claims that as many as 15 Bundesliga clubs were in attendance for Arsenal Under-23’s game against Swansea City earlier this week to watch the 18-year-old Englishman, while there had been teams from Spain, Italy and France as well.
Most notable among the clubs that scouted him was Bayern Munich. The German champions have been extensively scouting youth teams across England, having seen the kind of success former Manchester City academy starlet Jadon Sancho has had at rivals Borussia Dortmund.
The Bavarian giants had been heavily linked with another prodigious English talent – Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi throughout the January transfer window, but the move was blocked by the Premier League side. They now seem to have identified Amaechi as another potential addition to their ranks ahead of next season.
Arsenal have a couple of their academy starlets out on loan in January with Reiss Nelson away at Hoffenheim, while Emile Smith Rowe joined RB Leipzig in January. Given the interest that Amaechi is attracting from Bundesliga, the 18-year-old could also be on the move come summer. It, however, remains to be seen whether he ends up at Bayern Munich or at a different club, or remains at Arsenal.
