Genoa defender Cristian Romero, who is a target for Manchester United, has admitted that he is open to a move in the summer transfer window.
In an interview with Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Cristian Romero has alluded towards sealing a dream move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window. In addition to the Premier League heavyweights, the Genoa centre-back is also open to joining other European giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.
Cristian Romero is a name that has flown under the radar in Serie A this season. The young defender joined Genoa from boyhood club Belgrano last summer, but has taken no time in becoming a regular at the back for the Rossoblu after initially turning out for the club’s under-19 side.
Since making his Serie A debut, however, the 20-year-old has missed just two games due to suspension, highlighting his growing importance in the Genoa first-team. But, his stunning performances have also attracted a number of top clubs, with The Sun suggesting that Manchester United are among his suitors.
Defence has indeed been an area of concern for Manchester United, despite the improved performances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Red Devils are especially eager to bolster the heart of the defence, with Victor Lindelof being the only player who has sustained a top level of performances this season.
As a result, United have been linked with several centre-backs, with defenders from Serie A, in particular attracting their interest – the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Milan Skriniar and Alessio Romagnoli are their reported targets. Romero though, seems to have emerged as a target as well.
Now, the player has come out in the open, suggesting he is open to a move away from Genoa in the summer, with Manchester United among the clubs he dreams of representing. In particular, the Argentine is keen on playing Champions League football soon.
“I’ve always wanted to become a professional football player and I’ve made it happen. Now I dream of playing in the Champions League for one of the four most important clubs in the world: Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United.”
But, The Sun also claimed that Juventus are on the verge of signing Romero in a £26 million deal and when quizzed about the prospect of joining the Bianconeri, he was coy, “Have Juve already secured me? I don’t know.”
It now remains to be seen if the pursuit of Cristian Romero will be a lost cause, with the Argentinean centre-back making his way to Juventus, or if Manchester United are able to land him in the summer.
