Barcelona are reportedly eyeing a summer move for AFC Ajax and Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana according to the player’s agent.

Barcelona are intent on signing Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana in the summer transfer window, the 22-year-old’s agent has revealed in an interview with Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.

The Ajax custodian is a product of the Samuel Eto’o academy in his homeland of Cameroon and went on to join Barcelona’s youth ranks in 2010. Onana spent five years on the Catalans’ books impressing for the Under 17s and the Under 19s, before switching sides to Ajax in the summer of 2015.

Onana spent his first season in Netherlands with the Ajax Under 21 outfit, before earning promotion to the senior side in the 2016-17 campaign. Since then, the 22-year-old Cameroonian has gone on to make 122 appearances for the Dutch giants, managing to keep 55 clean sheets in the process.

The eight-time capped Cameroonian international has been in particularly impressive form this season, keeping 14 shut outs in 22 Eredivisie matches, helping Ajax to second place on the table, just two points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven.

Barcelona have been impressed with the performances of their former academy man and are interested in signing him back, as per the report from De Telegraaf. The Catalans are believed to be willing to sanction a bid in the range of €20 million, which is some way off Ajax’s €30-40 million valuation of their prized asset.

Amidst the reports, Onana’s agent, Albert Botines has confirmed that the La Liga champions are very much interested in signing the 22-year-old. “That’s right,” Botines told De Telegraaf when asked about the speculations before continuing, “It is no secret that Barca is interested.”

In Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona have one of the best goalkeepers in the world, while they have a more than able backup in the form of Netherlands international Jasper Cillessen. However, the Dutchman reportedly has his mind set on a summer exit, as he wants to move to a club where he will be the first-choice. (h/t Sport)

This seems to be the reason behind Barcelona’s interest in re-signing Onana in the summer. The 22-year-old Cameroonian, who is contracted with Ajax till the summer of 2021, has done well since leaving the Catalan outfit and could prove to be a valuable addition for the Blaugrana in case of Cillessen’s departure.

Barcelona have already raided Ajax for the signing of Frenkie de Jong, with the midfielder set to join the La Liga champions in the summer. It now remains to be seen if they are willing to meet the asking price for Onana, although any move would depend on Cillessen’s departure from Camp Nou.
