Luis Suarez was the subject of an approach from Manchester United and the Barcelona forward has reportedly rejected the advances of the Premier League club.
Spanish publication Diario Gol have claimed that Barcelona forward Luis Suarez is on the radar of Manchester United. The Red Devils reportedly did present a proposition to the Uruguayan with view to a summer move. But, Suarez has swiftly rejected the prospect of a summer move to Old Trafford.
The report states that a big reason for Suarez’s decision was his love for Liverpool. The Uruguayan is also loving his time at Barcelona and intends to prolong his stay at the club for as much time as he can, even though the board reportedly wants to cash in on the forward and use the money to sign a younger, long-term replacement.
Luis Suarez rose to fame as a dangerous number 9 during his time at Liverpool, even though he had a better overall record at Ajax. Going up against the best of teams in the Premier League, Suarez showed he had the right to be considered one of them and Barcelona came calling soon.
Suarez’s time at Barcelona has been his best in terms of individual stats and trophies alike. An overall record of 168 goals and 91 assists in 231 matches at Barcelona so far and it is safe to say Suarez has truly been a phenomenon. But, of late, he has been really inconsistent and the latest example was the 0-0 draw against Lyon, where he almost seemed off-pace and playing catchup the entire time.
There have been talks doing the rounds that Barcelona are looking to cash in on Suarez and are lining up replacements, especially with reports that personal terms have been agreed with Luka Jovic. As far as Suarez is concerned, he does have a potential suitor in the form of Manchester United.
United’s interest might not make too much sense, with Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford already present in their squad. But, the Red Devils are looking to offload Lukaku and bring in another forward. While there might be younger options available, bringing in Suarez could be beneficial in the grand scheme of things.
For one, Suarez could help mentor Rashford further. Also, Suarez would have a point to prove if Barcelona do end up opting to cash in on the Uruguayan, with the player himself not really interested in a transfer.
The report iterates Suarez rejected United’s advances, for now. But, should Manchester United place a sizeable offer at Barcelona’s doorstep, we could very well see the club accept it. Like it or not, Suarez might be left to rethink the possibility of a transfer to Old Trafford, unless other clubs come swooping in.
