Former Manchester United star Phil Neville has branded Paul Pogba as the best player in the Premier League, following his performance against Chelsea in FA Cup.
Manchester United superstar and French international Paul Pogba is the best player in the Premier League, former Red Devils’ defender Phil Neville has claimed in an interview with BBC Sport, as reported by The Sun.
Pogba has had a new lease on life at Manchester United ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the reins at the club in December last year, following a period filled with malaise under former manager Jose Mourinho. The France international has been sensational in recent weeks, leading the way in the Red Devils’ revival under the Norwegian.
Pogba was at the centre of attention once again on Monday night, as Manchester United eased past rivals Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup. The World Cup winner was the chief architect for the 20-time English champions’ victory, as he first set Ander Herrera up for the opening goal with a sumptuous cross, before bundling home the second goal with a diving header.
In the aftermath of Pogba’s masterclass against Chelsea, former Manchester United superstar Phil Neville was full of praises for the World Cup winner, while giving credit to his former teammate Solskjaer for ‘getting his tactics spot on’ and getting the best out of the Frenchman.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the match, Neville, who made 376 appearances for Manchester United, said (as quoted by The Sun): “It was like watching the Man United of old. Solskjaer got the tactics spot on. And right now, under him, I don’t see a better player in the Premier League than Paul Pogba.
“It’s been an incredible turnaround for United to come here and play with that arrogance and spirit.”
Following his exploits against the Blues, Pogba took his tally for the season to 14 goals and 10 assists from 32 matches across all competitions, with 9 strikes and 6 assists coming in just 12 games since Solskjaer was appointed as the interim manager at Old Trafford.
Apart from the UEFA Champions League encounter against Paris Saint-Germain last week, during which he got sent off for a second yellow card, Pogba has been absolutely unstoppable for Manchester United in the past couple of months.
The 25-year-old is enjoying the most productive campaign of his career till date. Pogba is the undisputed leader in Manchester United’s goalscoring and assist charts for the season.
Should he continue in the same vein of form till the end of the season, the Red Devils have an excellent chance of holding on to their fourth spot in the Premier League and qualifying for Champions League.
