Transfer News: Bayern Munich & Juventus monitoring Dean Henderson situation

Bayern Munich and Juventus are both monitoring Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan at Sheffield United.

Manchester United could find themselves in a battle to keep hold of goalkeeper Dean Henderson next summer, who is targeted by European giants Bayern Munich and Juventus, according to ESPN.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper has emerged as one of Championship’s rising stars this season, making as many as 30 appearances with Sheffield United, in which he has conceded only 31 goals.

His spectacular performances in the English second division have helped the Blades continue their push for promotion. And a big money move could be on the horizon next summer if he can maintain his blistering form in goal throughout the remainder of the campaign.

In fact, German giants Bayern Munich are already monitoring Henderson’s progress at Sheffield United, thus maintaining the recent trend, which has seen several young British footballers move to Bundesliga in order to further their career.

The Bavarians have had a stuttering campaign under new coach Niko Kovac and are bracing themselves for a potential squad overhaul in the summer. And Manuel Neuer is one of many Bayern players, whose downfall has been rather evident this season.

Thus, the German champions could certainly use some reinforcements in the goalkeeping department, even though second choice keeper Sven Ulreich has done rather well in the absence of Neuer.

However, Bayern could face stiff competition from Juventus, who are also keen on attaining the services of Henderson.

That being said, the Old Lady already boast the services of two well-established goalkeepers in Wojciech Szczesny and Mattia Perrin. Therefore, it’s rather unlikely that Henderson will be able to make an impact in the Juventus first-team, although he’ll be a solid addition keeping the future in mind.

As for Manchester United, they are also unlikely to hand any first opportunities to Henderson anytime soon considering the depth in their goalkeeping department. First-choice keeper David De Gea is considered irreplaceable at Old Trafford, while the likes of Sergio Romero, Lee Grant and Joel Pereira will all be ahead of Henderson in the pecking order.

Henderson’s loan deal with Sheffield is set to expire at the end of the season. His contract with Manchester United, one that he signed in June last year, runs out in the summer of 2020.

It will probably be wiser for Manchester United to extend the 21-year-old’s contract and send him out on loan next season to a mid-table or a newly promoted Premier League club, where he will not only receive regular game time but will also be presented with the opportunity to showcase his talent in arguably the most competitive league in the world.
