Manchester United are reportedly readying a swoop worth £100 million Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly for the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Manchester United are preparing a move to swoop top target Kalidou Koulibaly away from Napoli in the summer transfer window. The Senegalese defender is valued at around £100 million, which the Premier League heavyweights have no qualms shelling out.

Koulibaly has built up quite a reputation for himself since joining Napoli from KRC Genk in the summer of 2014. So much so, that the Senegalese international is now widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world at the present moment, with a bevy of top clubs eyeing him up.

Manchester United though, are reportedly the favourites to sign Koulibaly from Napoli, if he does decide to depart from San Paolo in the wake of the racism storm at Inter Milan last month. The Premier League heavyweights are indeed in need of a centre-back, and for good reason.

Victor Lindelof finally seems to have settled in at Old Trafford, and is starting to establish himself as a colossal force at the heart of the Manchester United defence. But, beyond the Swede, the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have proven to be unreliable for one reason or another, while Eric Bailly is rumoured to be on the exit trail.

All things considered, a top class centre-back could go a long way in completing the Manchester United squad, especially with the attacking unit finally starting to click. Koulibaly is thus, a viable target, whose addition could help create a formidable central defensive partnership at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are now ready to launch the offensive for the 27-year-old, taking advantage of the racism row last month. And, although Koulibaly has iterated that he is happy and content at Napoli, the chance to escape the off-field problems in Italy could turn his head.

Koulibaly is valued at around £100 million by Napoli, with the figure unlikely to faze cash rich Manchester United. But, with Real Madrid keeping a keen eye on developments, and in need of signing a centre-back themselves, a transfer saga could unfold too.

As things stand, Koulibaly is in a delicate situation, with a move away from San Paolo a possibility, albeit only in the summer transfer window. It now remains to be seen if Manchester United can move quickly to tie up the world-class defender, and if Real Madrid start to seriously consider a move for him.
