Transfer News: Real Madrid clear favourites for £100 million Christian Eriksen

Real Madrid are preparing an offer for Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen after the Danish midfielder made it clear he wants a new challenge.

Real Madrid are ready to offer big money to Tottenham for Christian Eriksen in the summer with a £100 million offer expected to persuade the North London club to sell their superstar. According to The Independent, Real Madrid are now the clear favourites to sign the Danish midfielder, after closest rivals Barcelona seemingly out of the race.

Eriksen is one of the hottest properties around the European football world and has seen many elite clubs linked with him in the last few seasons. Tottenham have so far proved to be heavyweights in retaining their star names, rebuffing any approaches made for Eriksen in the past from top clubs from the Premier League as well as Spain.

However, the situation is a little different as Eriksen has stalled on a new deal, suggesting that he could be open to a new challenge in his career. For a player of his quality, he reportedly likes the idea of Spain with Barcelona and Real Madrid the prime candidates for his signature.

With Barcelona highly interested previously, they now have bowed out the race following the arrival of Coutinho last January, leaving Madrid as the front-runners.

Real Madrid are having an indifferent season following some glorious years winning the Champions League four times in the last five years. With many key players out of form and a problematic managerial situation, an overhaul seems likely, and Florentino Perez wants either of Eden Hazard or Christian Eriksen to bolster his squad.

Madrid are believed to be open to spending about £100 million on the Danish midfielder, although there could be another twist in the situation. With Eriksen’s contract expiring in 2020, the summer of 2019 would be the ideal time for Madrid to crash in and negotiate with Daniel Levy. The Spurs Chairman would be helpless in negotiating a higher fee then considering Eriksen will only have 12 months left on his deal.

Tottenham, after renewing Harry Kane’s contract for a further six years, believed they could tempt Eriksen into signing a new deal. The new contract was thought to be worth between £200k – £250k per week, although Eriksen has made it clear that his intention of stalling on this new deal is not financial.

Madrid will be hoping they can persuade Tottenham to let go of their star player for less than the £100 million quoted and believe the Dane would be a perfect fit for their beleaguered squad. Only the coming months leading to the summer window will reveal more on this deal and determine if Eriksen stays put at Tottenham or joins Real Madrid.
