Transfer News: Arsenal preparing move for Yannick Carrasco

Arsenal are prepared to make a move for former Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco with the player keen on the move to the Premier League.

Arsenal’s need for a wide player and defensive reinforcements in the January market was confirmed by Unia Emery at the beginning of the year, and the Gunners are now actively pursuing targets. According to The Mirror, former Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco is the latest to be linked with a move to the Emirates, and the player is reportedly keen on a move to Arsenal.

Since the transfer window re-opened, Arsenal had been on the trails of Barcelona man Dennis Suarez, although the pursuit has reportedly gone cold considering Barcelona’s demands for the player. However, that has not stopped Arsenal into pursuing other targets in former Atletico Madrid and current Dalian Yifang winger Yannick Carrasco to bring him from China this January.

There is essential understanding from Carrasco’s camp that he might prefer a move to Arsenal over other suitors which includes the likes of AC Milan and Manchester United. Arsenal were also linked with a transfer for the player in the past, although back then a £50 million asking price must have made the club re-consider.

Recently talk of a move to Milan was rife after the Belgian International liked a post from the club on social media, although his €10 million salary would not be affordable for the Italian side. Arsenal, however, could come close to paying that kind of money, although there could be a pay cut involved in the deal.

The Belgian moved to the Chinese Super League last February for a reported £27 million and earns £170k a week. At 25 years of age, Carrasco will be entering his prime years and could be looking for a return towards a European challenge. Arsenal are thought to be his preferred destination as the player is reportedly keen to work under Unai Emery.

Arsenal are looking at the player after they have been short of attacking option with Danny Welbeck injured for the rest of the season. Additionally, the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been playing out wide this season for many games and seems to be overworked there.

With Arsenal in need of a recognised wide player and the Dennis Suarez deal still unsure, the Belgian might be a good choice considering he and the Spaniard will cost near about the same. For now, an £18 million fee is rumoured to be enough and Arsenal are sold they want a wide player in this winter window. Will he be a successful player in North London? Only time will tell.
