Brahim Diaz is reportedly on the verge of sealing a transfer away from Manchester City, with Real Madrid set to shell out around £15 million for the youngster.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester City are set to lose another one of their academy gems. Brahim Diaz is reportedly on the verge of leaving the defending Premier League champions for Real Madrid, who are likely to pay Manchester City a fee to land the youngster in January itself.

Diaz came through the Manchester City setup after joining the club from Malaga in 2014. The Spaniard formed the core of the youth squad and was tipped to be the future of the club alongside the likes of Jadon Sancho, Phil Foden and other up-and-coming talents.

The midfielder had been tipped to leave Manchester City for a while now. The youngster has been at loggerheads over the prospect of committing his future to the Premier League giants, with his deal set to expire at the end of the season. Despite the concerns, Pep Guardiola fielded the academy graduate in 3 Carabao Cup games, with Diaz redeeming the faith in the form of 2 goals.

Real Madrid have long been keeping an eye on Brahim Diaz. Los Blancos have had a change in their transfer policy over the recent years. Florentino Perez has looked to build a team for the present and the future, which has seen the club president sign many young National talents with the hope of forming a core that can dominate club football and form the crux of the future of La Roja.

Manchester City have been hesitant to let go of Diaz, that too on a free transfer. But, according to the report, Real Madrid will pay the defending Premier League champions £15 million. In lieu of the spend, the Spanish giants will acquire the midfielder in January itself, rather than waiting till the expiry of his City contract.

One reason for Real Madrid’s pursuit of Diaz and the intent to sign him in January could be the rumours surrounding Isco. The midfielder was also a part of Malaga and has grown into a superstar. But, he has lost his place in the starting eleven at Real Madrid under Santiago Solari and is looking to agree a move elsewhere, especially with the interest that his talent has been able to garner.

As far as Diaz is concerned, he would be glad to be arriving at Real Madrid at a time where he is likely to be given more of a look-in. For City, there are too many academy exits that in future might be called ‘the one that got away’.
