Tottenham are reportedly trying to sign Norwich City’s teenage maestro, Max Aarons in a £15 million deal, locking horns with RB Leipzig in the process.
The Sun have reported that Tottenham Hotspur have Norwich City defender Max Aarons in their sights. The 18-year-old has been in fine form for the Championship side this season, with Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig also interested in signing him.
Aaron has been instrumental in his side’s rise up to 2nd on the Championship table on Christmas day. and could possibly lead to their promotion back to the Premier League. The teenage prodigy is naturally adept at playing right-back, but could also play as a left-back when the situation arises.
The English starlet has netted 3 goals and 3 assists for the Championship side this season. He was also a regular in the team’s Under-23 and Under-18 sides less than an year ago. Currently, a string of clubs, including RB Leipzig and Tottenham, are in pursuit of the phenomenal 18-year-old.
The Bundesliga side need to find a replacement for their regular right-back, Lukas Klostermann, who has been disappointing this season. Mauricio Pochettino, on the other hand, could use a player like him to bolster his defense and keep Tottenham in contention for the Premier League title.
The Tottenham boss could, in effect, have a lethal long-term full-back pairing in Kyle Walker-Peters and Aarons, if he can poach the latter. Walker-Peters was recently devastating with 3 assists when the Lilywhites crushed Bournemouth 5-0 on Boxing Day.
Norwich City though, are not in a hurry to sell any of their players, following their sales of James Maddison and Josh Murphy for £33 million last summer, and would unsurprisingly like to retain Aarons for the remainder of the season, considering how important he has been in their challenge in the current campaign.
The Canaries have stated that they would not let Aarons leave the club anytime in January. Tottenham though, are hoping to sign him in a £15 million January move, and they could add the condition that Aarons gets loaned back to Norwich for the remainder of the season, just like they had done with the capture of Dele Alli, so as to secure a permanent deal.
For now, the pursuit of Max Aarons hangs in the balance, with Tottenham and RB Leipzig hot in his pursuit. Spurs though, are weighing up a £15 million move that could see them take the lead in the race to sign him, and it remains to be seen if they can land the English wonderkid next month.
