Barcelona are reportedly ready to offer €150 million plus Philippe Coutinho to land Kylian Mbappe from PSG, who could be forced to sell the World Cup winner.
If the report by Spanish outlet Don Balon is to be believed, Barcelona are stepping up their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe, with an unprecedented deal set to be on offer. The reigning La Liga champions are willing to offer Philippe Coutinho as part of the deal to sign the World Cup winner from PSG, in addition to also shelling out €150 million.
Mbappe might only be 20, but he already has the world at his feet. At a time when players are aspiring to establish themselves as regulars at their respective clubs, the player has already won every trophy there is to win in French football while also going on to triumph at the 2018 FIFA World Cup with the national side, all this while being a key player for every side he has represented.
However, with the positive performances come the attention of who’s who of European football, and that is exactly what has been happening over the last couple of years. Presently though, Barcelona seem to be the only club that hold a concrete interest in signing Mbappe and they have a sweetener on offer for PSG.
The Blaugrana are ready to offer Philippe Coutinho as part of the deal that sees them sign Mbappe, with an additional €150 million also set to be put on the table. Barcelona are aiming to take advantage of the fact that PSG might be forced to offload one of their two biggest superstars – Mbappe or Neymar – due to Financial Fair Play sanctions.
Coutinho only joined Barcelona from Liverpool earlier this year, and was almost an instant success, as he quickly established himself as a key member of Ernesto Valverde’s squad. However, the 2018-19 season has not quite been a smooth sailing for the Brazilian, with indifferent form resulting in his omission from the starting lineup lately.
Coutinho’s departure seems like a preposterous idea, considering the Brazilian is seen as a long-term replacement for Andres Iniesta, and a part of the club’s future midfield unit. With that being said, offering the 26-year-old could help lower Mbappe’s transfer fee considerably.
The player, who shares a strong relationship with Neymar, could also be tempted to join PSG, with Mbappe taking his place in the Barcelona first-team setup. As far as Les Parisiens are concerned, they would be getting a world class player in exchange of Mbappe while also avoiding Financial Fair Play sanctions in the process.
But, it remains to be seen if theory turns into reality, should Barcelona indeed offer Coutinho as part of the deal to land Mbappe. It will be interesting to see though, if the La Liga leaders are able to sign the World Cup winner at long last.
