Transfer News: Real Madrid plotting January move for Pablo Sarabia

Real Madrid are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing back former player Pablo Sarabia, who is currently plying his trade for Sevilla.

According to Spanish publication Defensa Central, Real Madrid are interested in bringing back Pablo Sarabia. The Sevilla star, who was formerly a part of Los Blancos, is being lined up by the struggling capital club as a potential addition to the roster to infuse some creativity and impetus within their squad.

Sarabia rose through the ranks at Real Madrid. But, the versatile star never really managed to crack the code and moved to Getafe in order to establish himself within the La Liga footballing scene. Establish himself he did, becoming one of the more influential stars for Getafe.

But, after 145 appearances for the club, Sevilla came calling and nabbed Sarabia in a bargain deal that cost around €1 million. While not many had envisaged him having too much impact at Sevilla, the player has proven himself, not only becoming a key player within the setup but also increasing his contribution compared to his days at Getafe.

The 2018-19 campaign though, has seen Sarabia break into a new performance tier, with 15 goals and 8 assists to his name already – 7 goals and 6 assists in 16 La Liga appearances. This has caught the attention of his former club Real Madrid, who are exploring the possibility of bringing him back to Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid’s disastrous start to the 2018-19 campaign saw Julen Lopetegui lose his job. Santiago Solari has been given the charge and while there has been a positive change in terms of results and performances, chances are that Florentino Perez is on the lookout for a reputed manager, with Solari acting as the stopgap.

Nevertheless, an array of stars have been linked with moves away from Real Madrid, chief among them being Marco Asensio, Isco and Luka Modric. While the trio’s departure could diminish the level of creativity and flair within the squad, it might also make room for other players to come in, players that fit the philosophy of either Solari or any incoming manager.

Pablo Sarabia will be available for a fee around the €18 million mark, which would be a bargain deal, considering the 26-year-old has broken through the previous ceiling and is peaking at the right time.

While there is the case of figuring out where and how to fit Sarabia within the Real Madrid starting eleven, the fact that he can play as an advanced central midfielder as well as on either wing will surely enable him to get minutes on the pitch, regardless of whether he is in the starting eleven.

This looks like a deal that is dependent more on whether Florentino Perez wants to bring Pablo Sarabia back. It would make sense for all parties involved, except Sevilla, with the 26-year-old also getting the opportunity of returning to his boyhood club and showcasing his improved skillset.
