Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly interested in Florian Grillitsch and have already held talks over the potential transfer of the Hoffenheim star.
German publication Bild are of the opinion that Arsenal and Tottenham are showing interest in Florian Grillitsch. The Hoffenheim star has reportedly had his agent flown to London for talks as well last week, with the Premier League duo keen on bringing the Austrian international over to England.
Florian Grillitsch came over to Germany, with Werder Bremen snapping him up from St. Polten in the summer of 2013. Grillitsch went through the paces at the iconic German outfit and even managed to break into the first-team setup. But, after 54 senior appearances for the club, the midfielder joined on-the-rise Hoffenheim in 2017 on a free transfer.
The transfer has paid dividends, with Grillitsch now not only a key part of the setup at Hoffenheim and working under one of the most enterprising young coaches in the footballing world in Julian Nagelsmann. But, the midfielder is also getting a taste of Champions League football, impressing in the 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Group Stage.
While he earned plaudits for his performance against Manchester City, two of City’s domestic adversaries have taken interest in his services. Arsenal and Tottenham are scouring the prospect of bringing the 23-year-old over to England.
For Arsenal, it is more a case of adding to the options they already have and perhaps, bringing in Grillitsch as a potential replacement for the contingency in case Aaron Ramsey does run down his contract and leave at the end of the season.
But, Grillitsch could find it hard to break into the starting lineup, with Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka already managing to impress the Arsenal manager.
As far as Tottenham are concerned, Mauricio Pochettino will be desperate to add to his central midfield. Mousa Dembele is being linked with a move away from the club and the manager does not have many options beyond the Belgian, with only Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks to choose from.
The lack of activity in the summer transfer window was much criticized and has been chalked down as one of the reasons Tottenham did not look their usual dominating selves in many of their matches. Grillitsch would fit the policy of bringing in young players and the 23-year-old would not feel out of place among similarly ambitious youngsters.
But, according to his agent Thomas Bohn, the player is currently happy at Hoffenheim and not seeking an exit in the near future, which dismisses any chances of a January transfer.
Arsenal and Tottenham though, will continue to scout Florian Grillitsch and maintain interest in the 23-year-old and maybe come in with an offer during the summer transfer window.
