Sergio Busquets has been a colossal figure for Barcelona over the last decade or so. But, having crossed into the 30s club this year, the Spanish international is nearing the time when the Blaugrana boss Ernesto Valverde will have to start phasing him out of his side, even though the player signed a renewal recently.

To that end, Barcelona have been linked with a few up and coming holding midfielders recently, with Ndombele being their latest target. The club’s technical director Ramon Planes was present during Lyon’s Champions League encounter against Manchester City earlier this week to scout the Frenchman.

At 21, the player is at the right age to learn the ropes from Busquets before eventually taking over from him in the years to come. The French midfielder has also hinted that he would be open to a move to a bigger club, although he put the final decision in the hands of Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, who is known to be a notorious negotiator.

And, Les Gones are also likely to command a hefty fee for Ndombele, which could pose a hurdle for Barcelona. The Catalan giants could also have to overcome competition from several other top clubs, with Juventus and Manchester City, other than Everton also interested in the 21-year-old.

The race to sign Tanguy Ndombele is heating up. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the French midfielder, who continues to go from strength to strength at Lyon.
