Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly leading the chase for German playmaker, who could be available for a measly £15 million next summer
As per a report by The Sun, who have quoted Sport Bild, widespread interest in Hoffenheim starlet Nadiem Amiri has resurfaced despite an injury riddled season. Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in the Germany playmaker, who could be available for as little as £15 million next summer.
Amiri has been one of the many success stories under the tutelage of Julian Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim, who have become an established European side ever since the young German manager took over. As far as Amiri is concerned, the fact that he has over 100 senior appearances for his club at the tender age of 22 is testament to his talent.
The 2018-19 season though, has been one to forget for the German playmaker, who has been on the sidelines due to a long-term injury. But, despite his absence from the field, the interest in Amiri has not dissipated, with Arsenal and Tottenham continuing their long-time pursuit of the player.
The imminent departure of Aaron Ramsey, who is set to run down his contract at the Emirates after not being offered a renewal, means that Arsenal have been forced into the market for a reinforcement. In addition to the Welshman’s situation, the struggles of Henrikh Mkhitaryan also mean they could do with a playmaker.
Amiri is thus, a viable target for Arsenal, who could have a long-term solution in midfield in the German playmaker. Tottenham, on the other hand, are also on their toes due to ongoing concerns surrounding a number of star players.
While Mousa Dembele looks set to make his way out of the club next summer, the fact that Christian Eriksen is being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid will surely be making Mauricio Pochettino uneasy. Amiri is a player who fits the Pochettino mould, and could make for an asset at Tottenham.
The German playmaker’s price tag also makes him an appealing target for the North London rivals, with the player set to be available for a bargain £15 million next summer due to a clause in his contract with Hoffenheim. Both Arsenal and Tottenham have been operating on limited budgets due to different reasons, making the figure an affordable one.
Arsenal though, would hope their good relations with Hoffenheim can help them trump Tottenham to the player’s signature, having loaned out Reiss Nelson to the Bundesliga outfit. The race to sign Amiri though, is starting to intensify, and it will be interesting to see how things pan out in the coming months.
