Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has reportedly been offered by his representatives to Real Madrid, who are in the market for a striker
If a report by Spanish outlet Don Balon is to be believed, Romelu Lukaku has his heart set on leaving Manchester United. The Belgian striker’s representatives have offered him to Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid, who are reportedly scouring the transfer market for a top class striker.
Lukaku arrived at Manchester United from Everton in the summer of 2017, and showed some promising signs in his maiden campaign at Old Trafford. A return of 27 goals and 9 assists in 51 appearances was a sign of things to come in his stint with the Red Devils. But, the Belgian striker has struggled considerably this term.
In 17 outings across all competitions, Lukaku has just 4 goals and 2 assists to show for his efforts. The poor form has been largely attributed to Jose Mourinho’s style of play, which has left the 25-year-old frustrated, as per the report. And, in order to end his woes at Manchester United, the player has offered himself to Real Madrid.
That Real Madrid are striving to sign a top class striker to be the long-term successor to Karim Benzema is all too well known by now. While the Frenchman has been, by far, the best outfield player for Los Blancos this season, there have been tell tale signs over the last couple of campaigns that he is starting to decline.
To that end, Real Madrid have been linked with a number of striker, with the Spanish heavyweights even considering Marcus Rashford as one of their targets. However, it could be another Manchester United striker, Lukaku, who could be on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 25-year-old has already flirted with the idea of leaving Manchester United for one of Europe’s big name clubs, and Real Madrid are as big as they come. However, rumours that his representatives have offered the Manchester United striker to the European champions due to his frustrations with Mourinho seem a bit contradicting.
Lukaku recently spoke about his admiration of Mourinho in a recent interview, even exclaiming that he is one of the few players at Manchester United who could “run through a brick wall for him”, so to speak, which makes him one of the manager’s favourites. The report’s claims thus, are heavily contradicting.
Real Madrid could have a top notch target, who could be a long-term solution upfront, if Lukaku indeed has offered himself to them. But, if his own comments are anything to go by, the Belgian international still has a lot to offer to Manchester United, who are unlikely to lose his services anytime soon.
