Manchester United are reportedly ready to offer a deal worth £150,000 per week in order to retain Marcus Rashford and ward off Real Madrid

According to an exclusive report by Daily Star, Manchester United are lining up a contract offer for Marcus Rashford, who is being linked with a move to Real Madrid. The Premier League heavyweights are set to table a £150,000-a-week deal to keep the English international at Old Trafford.

Rashford has seen his progress stutter over the last 12 months or so, having initially been a regular part of Jose Mourinho’s first-team setup. But, the arrival of Alexis Sanchez pegged him back somewhat, with starts coming few and far between for the English international.

Unsurprisingly, his form has stuttered as well, as evidenced by the fact that he has managed to find the back of the net just twice in 13 outings so far this season. His position at Manchester United has further given way to speculation surrounding the 21-year-old’s future, with Real Madrid among those interested.

Identifying the long-term successor for Karim Benzema is imperative for Los Blancos, especially with the Frenchman blowing hot and cold in the last couple of seasons. This term, Benzema has been much improved, albeit still being inconsistent, which has affected Real Madrid’s cause, even though he is their top scorer.

Mariano Diaz is one of the players who could take over the baton from Benzema. But, beyond Mariano, Santiago Solari has no one else to fall back on. Rashford is thus, a viable target for Real Madrid, with Solari being a huge admirer of the Manchester United superstar’s talents.

Manchester United though, are eager to keep Real Madrid’s prying hands away from Rashford. They are thus, ready to open talks with the 21-year-old over a bumper new deal that will see his wages being hiked to around £150,000 per week, which will make him one of the highest paid players at Old Trafford.

In fact, the Red Devils had been willing to offer him a fresh contract before the end of last season itself before the player put negotiations on hold. But, they will be hopeful of warding off Real Madrid and tying the boyhood Manchester United superstar to a new deal.

For now, the ball is in Marcus Rashford’s court as Manchester United prepare to offer him a new deal. It now remains to be seen if the 21-year-old remains at Old Trafford by signing a new £150,000-a-week deal, or if he heeds the widespread advice of pundits by leaving his boyhood club, possibly by joining Real Madrid.
