Real Madrid are reportedly plotting a €60 million move to land Serie A hotshot Krzysztof Piatek from Genoa next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Real Madrid are stepping up their efforts to bolster a department that has flattered to deceive this season. The European champions are ready to splash the big bucks to secure the services of Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek who could cost as much as €60 million.

Piatek has set the Serie A alight since joining Genoa from Cracovia Krakow this past summer. With an astounding 13 goals from his first 8 games in Italian football, it did not take long for the Polish hotshot to garner attention towards himself.

With nine of those goals coming in Serie A, Piatek is leading the race to become the Capocannoniere come the end of the season. And, while he may have gone off the boil somewhat in recent outings, the 23-year-old has shown enough raw potential to attract some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Real Madrid.

Los Blancos surprised many when they chose not to replace Cristiano Ronaldo adequately, signing just Mariano Diaz to bolster their attack. The decision has surely backfired, with no player apart from Karim Benzema, to an extent, managing to contribute consistently for Real Madrid.

Benzema himself went through a slump for about a month or so, and there is a growing feeling that the Frenchman is fast reaching his sell by date, having also struggled to look the part in the last two seasons. Real Madrid are thus, in search for a viable successor to the star striker, someone who can also help fill the void of Ronaldo to an extent.

To that end, Piatek has emerged as a viable target for the Spanish heavyweights, who are now ready to intensify their pursuit of the Polish international. The 23-year-old is currently leading a long list of targets that also includes the likes of Mauro Icardi, Harry Kane and Paulo Dybala. Real Madrid though, are showing serious interest in Piatek in particular.

Florentino Perez is ready to sanction a move worth €60 million to land the Serie A hotshot, although they will have to move quickly to wrap up the transfer next summer, with bitter rivals Barcelona also reported to be showing interest in him.

For now, it looks like Real Madrid are seriously going to pursue a move for Krzysztof Piatek, who is going from strength to strength in Serie A football. It will be interesting to see if they can indeed land the Polish striker next summer.
